When Tiger Woods approaches the first tee in Ohio as much attention will be on his golf shoes as on his opening drive.
That is because the former world number one will be trying out a prototype pair of Nike golf shoes.
Nike FREE, which was originally developed in 2004, provides golfers with "natural motion" technology that is designed to mimic and conform to the natural motion of the foot.
Tobie Hatfield, one of the directors within Nike's Innovation Kitchen, said the new golf shoe will provide Woods with greater stability as he addresses the ball.
Tiger explained: "I love the feel of Nike FREE for training, so I asked Tobie if it was possible to bring that technology to the golf course. It's exciting to see a conversation like that come to life and I look forward to wearing them this week."
Woods will return to action this week after a long layoff due to Achilles and knee injuries, which saw him miss the US and UK Opens.
