Tiger Woods sets the early pace in the race for Ryder Cup selection

Tiger Woods' final day charge at the Masters has put him at the top of the table for selection to the 2012 Ryder Cup.

Woods, wearing his traditional last day red Nike golf shirt, stormed up the leaderboard with a round of five under which bagged him fourth place.

He finished as the leading US golfer, securing 330 Ryder Cup points, in the first event which counts toward qualification for the 38th playing of the event in Medinah Country Club.

Only the major tournaments will count toward selection for Davis Love III's team this year but every tournament will matter next season.

The former world number one leads the early running ahead of Bo Van Pelt and Ryan Palmer, who both performed well at Augusta.

European qualification begins next year with Ian Poulter, Justin Rose and Paul Casey, who missed out on the 2010 event, all hoping to secure selection.
