Tiger Woods has revealed he will miss next week's US Open after failing to recover from injuries he picked up in the Augusta Masters earlier in the season.
The former number one has been troubled by a left knee strain and a mild Achilles problem which forced him to retire from The Players Championship recently.
His decision to rest instead of playing the event means golf fans will have to wait even longer to see Woods mounting a final round challenge in his trademark red Nike golf shirt.
"I am extremely disappointed I won't be playing in the US Open [16-19 June]," the 35-year-old stated on his official website.
"But it's time for me to listen to my doctors and focus on the future. I was hopeful I could play but, if I did, I risk further damage to my left leg."
One player who will be donning his golf shoes for the event is Sergio Garcia who recently overcame a tense seven-man playoff to secure a place at the event.
