Nike golf clothing ambassador Tiger Woods has slipped into third place in the World Golf Rankings after Martin Kaymer took home the Falcon trophy in Abu Dhabi.
Woods won't kick-start his 2011 season until Thursday, when he plays in the Torrey Pines event, but the former world number one is already on the back foot as the season gets off to a flying start.
Kaymer was playing exceptionally well and enjoyed a five-shot lead in the opening round.
And the German's game shows no signs of slowing down. He has hit just one bogey in the past 60 holes he has played at Abu Dhabi and the golfer even refers to it as "my home course".
Speaking to reporters after the tournament, Kaymer said: "Hopefully I can stay [in third place] for a while. It is definitely nice to take over from the player who, for me, is the best in the world."
"I hit a lot of fairways and my putting was amazing," he added.
All this has helped heap even more pressure on Woods, who failed to win a single tournament in 2010.
