Simon Dyson finished the Open at Royal St George's as the leading English golfer, finishing ahead of the world number one and two, who both failed to make the cut.
The Yorkshireman, looking resplendent in purple Nike golf trousers and matching golf shirt, carded a final round level-par 70 to finish in a share of ninth place.
His top-ten finish guarantees him an invite to the 141st Open at Lytham St Anne's next year as well as a six-figure share of the prize money.
Dyson admitted that the place for next season's event was more important than the money as it means he will not have to pack his golf clothing for a trip to one of the ultra-competitive qualifying events.
The result is even more surprising due to the fact he was preparing to go on holiday with his family over the Open period but received a phonecall saying injuries to other players had left a spot open for him.
He now heads off to Spain for a well-deserved break with a little extra spending money in his pocket.
