Golf legend Severiano Ballesteros has publically declared his support for the Madrid bid to host the 2018 Ryder Cup.
The Spaniard has a distinguished record in the competition, having won it five times, and the European team dedicated their 2010 victory to him.
Known widely as Seve, the 53-year-old has been suffering with a brain tumour but has taken the time to write a letter showing his support for Madrid.
"Madrid is the best candidate to host this magnificent event due to the fantastic weather, its charming people and our golf course at Tres Cantos which has the potential to become one of the most beautiful golf courses in Europe, offering excellent transport links to the heart of Madrid," he wrote.
The decision on who will host the 2018 Ryder Cup will be made in May. Other candidates include France, Germany, Holland, Portugal and Sweden.
Medinah Country Club in the US will host the next instalment of the famous competition in 2012.
