Rory aiming to take out top trio

Rory McIlroy has set his sights on taking the spotlight away from the world's top three players at this week's Dubai Desert Classic.

With most of the media attention firmly on Lee Westwood, Martin Kaymer and Tiger Woods, the Northern Irishman is ready to cause an upset.

Back in 2009, the 21-year-old claimed his only European Tour victory at the Emirates Club and he will be looking to repeat the feat when he tees off in his golf clothing on Thursday (February 10th).

"If you would have seen me hitting balls in Dubai you wouldn't have said I'd make the cut," he said. "I'm very happy with the progress I've made.

"I'm actually hitting it a lot better than I was at the end of the year when I was contending in some of the tournaments. That's a big positive for me.

"It feels like a long time since I won the Classic. I know I won last year in America, but it would be nice to win another event on the European Tour."
