Phil Mickelson supports Ryder Cup captain Jose Maria Olazabal

Phil Mickelson has said he thinks appointing Spaniard Jose Maria Olazabal as the European Ryder Cup captain was a good decision.

It was confirmed earlier this week that the golfer will lead the European team at Medinah in 2012, taking over the reins from Colin Montgomerie, who led the side to victory at Celtic Manor in 2010.

"I really like Jose Maria, I don't think you'll find a nicer person on tour," Mickelson told Sky Sports. "He is so enjoyable to be around.

"I've been fortunate to be able to spend some time with him throughout the years; obviously he's a wonderful player but in addition to that you won't find a higher-quality individual and I think everybody is excited he's going to be Ryder Cup captain."

He went on to call Olazabal a "class act".

It has been announced that Davis Love will captain the US side in the 2012 Ryder Cup.
