Phil Mickelson rethinks Seve tribute

Phil Mickelson has revealed that his planned tribute to Seve Ballesteros at this year's Masters champions' dinner has been scrapped.

The left hander had suggested that he would push for Spanish food to be included on the menu, but he has had a rethink after discovering that Ballesteros may not be able to attend.

One of the most popular and inspiring men in golf, Ballesteros is suffering from brain cancer and his health is likely to prevent him from travelling.

The Spaniard has not featured there since his last competitive appearance in golf clothing in 2007 - a year after that he collapsed at Madrid Airport and required emergency surgery on a tumour.

"I wanted to kind of honour him," Mickelson explained. "I just sent him an email saying that if he were able to come, and felt healthy enough to be able to make this tournament, I would love to have the dinner be something that he would like ... a Spanish dish of paella or whatever he thought would be appropriate.

"But unfortunately I don't think he's going to be able to make it, so our thoughts will be with him that evening."
