Phil Mickelson has found himself packing up his golf clothing in recent months following a tournament with a feeling that he must improve
The left-hander, who many expected to establish himself as world number one following Tiger Woods' on and off-course issues, has struggled to keep pace with the leading Europeans in recent months.
Mickelson now finds himself in sixth place in the ranking, having only claimed one tournament victory since he claimed the 2010 Masters.
The American is looking for major improvements in his game at the Scottish Open before heading to the third major of the season at Royal St George's later this month.
He said: "I love playing the week before a major and getting acclimatised.
"I am really excited. I feel my game is right there and Loch Lomond was great, but playing at a links style course the week before the British Open is an ideal way to get ready."
