Persistence pays off as Millar achieves Major dream

Dreams can come true if you dedicate yourself to achieving them – just ask Matt Millar.

The Australian golfer has finally booked his place among the field of a Major championship at the age of 34.

His victory at an International Final Qualifying event in Victoria earned him his place at this year's Open, to be played at Royal St George's.

Millar finished ahead of the field in the 36-hole event at Kingston Heath Gold Club, carding an excellent 10-under par total of 134.

And the determined pro revealed that he had been boosted by another piece of good news before he donned his golf clothing and took to the course.

"My wife gave birth on Wednesday so I haven't had a chance to play much golf and practise ... maybe that's the secret for me," Millar said afterwards.

"I can't wait (for the Open). I've played a bit of golf over in Britain but never at Royal St George's so I'm really looking forward to the experience."
