Jose Maria Olazabal has been selected as the captain of the next European Ryder Cup team.
The move, which had been anticipated, will see the Spaniard take over from Colin Montgomerie for the next tournament at the Medinah Country Club in 2012.
He will wear the captain's golf clothing as the Europeans seek to defend the title they won by one point at Celtic Manor in October last year.
Olazabal, 44, has enjoyed an illustrious career, claiming two Masters titles among his total of 31 career victories.
The popular pro was the overwhelming favourite to be given the role of leading Europe into battle against the US.
He will become only the third continental European to captain the team in the history of the Ryder Cup.
Compatriot Seve Ballesteros and Germany's Bernhard Langer were the previous two, and Olazabal has a tough act to follow as they both claimed victory.
