Colin Montgomerie has hit back at Ian Poulter after the Englishman made derogatory comments about a course he designed.
But the Scot defended the course and insisted that Poulter was in the minority.
"Some of his comments are over the top but that's Poulter," Montgomerie said.
"He's a character and he's entitled to his opinions. It's just they're not the opinion of the majority of the Tour."
Monty intimated that he was quietly confident he could deal with the issue, and he even found time to praise his outspoken fellow pro.
"Don't worry because I can handle Ian Poulter, believe me," he said.
"He did a great job at the Ryder Cup where he was super but he's entitled to his opinions."
Poulter has never hesitated to speak his mind and he recently tried to tempt Tiger Woods into some "banter" on Twitter.
