Luke Donald kept his cool in his golf clothing to claim the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship on Sunday (February 27th).
The Englishman beat the new world number one Martin Kaymer 3&2 in a tense final in which the German threatened to complete a remarkable comeback.
Having trailed by three after just five holes, Kaymer hit top form to square the tie by the turn at the Ritz Plaza Golf Club's ultra-long dessert course at Dove Mountain, US.
But Donald, 33, fought off his resurgent opponent to seal a victory which sees him rise from ninth to third in the world rankings.
"I can't describe it - I'm close to tears," an emotional Donald said afterwards. "It feels amazing. I've put a lot of work in over the last five years and it's nice to see it pay off.
"You always have doubts and the wheels were coming off a bit, so the up and down on the 10th was huge and to have three birdies in the last six holes was special."
