Luke Donald's decision to give up trying to match the game's big hitters was the key behind his return to form, the Englishman has said.
The 33-year-old won the recent WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in his golf clothing, climbing up to fourth in the world rankings in the process.
And although the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club course on which he enjoyed his success was more than 7,700 yards long, Donald said he had accepted that hitting big was not essential to winning tournaments.
"Back in 2007, if you want to really know the truth, I think I decided to try to hit the ball a little bit farther to try to catch up to some of my peers," he said.
"I think it made my swing get off kilter and it's taken a good two or three years for it to get back to almost where I need it to be."
