Martin Kaymer has been awarded the Breakthrough Sportsman of the Year at the 2011 Laureus World Sports Awards Ceremony in Abu Dhabi.
The prestigious awards ceremony, which took place last night (Monday February 7th), recognises some of the highest achievers in the world of sport.
Kaymer enjoyed a fantastic run of form in his golf clothing last season, winning the US PGA Championship before going on to claim the Race to Dubai and the European golfing crown for 2010.
And the German has hit the ground running this year, with victory in Abu Dhabi helping to boost his challenge to hunt down and overtake current world number one Lee Westwood.
The 26-year-old was also part of the European Ryder Cup team presented with the Laureus Spirit of Sport Award following their narrow win over the US in October.
Spanish tennis ace Rafael Nadal claimed the ultimate accolade as he was honoured with the World Sportsman of the Year award.
