Francesco Molinari inches away from ace in Par 3 competition

Francesco Molinari's ball came to rest just four inches away from the cup on the sixth hole of the Masters Par 3 competition.

The world number 15 took to the Augusta Par 3 event in a vibrant turquoise Nike golf shirt and black golf trousers, alongside his brother Edoardo and fellow countryman Matteo Manassero.

All three were in good spirits at the traditional warm up event for the first major of the year.

The event is often a family affair with players' friends and families joining them on the course.

Ian Poulter, who is renowned for his stylish golf clothing chose his mother to caddie for him during the event, and Zach Johnson had Tennis star Andy Roddick on his bag.

World number four Luke Donald won the event and is hoping the break the jinx of the Par 3 winner having never claimed the Green Jacket in the same year.

Francesco will be teeing off on the main Augusta National course on Thursday alongside Hunter Mahan and Ernie Els who has twice finished runner up in the Masters in 2000 and 2004.
