Defending champ Ernie Els looks for win to kick-start season

Ernie Els has set his sights on kick-starting his season with a victory at the WGC Cadillac Championship.

The South African is the defending champion but he has endured a tough run in his golf clothing since that victory in Miami.

"Golf is a strange and unpredictable game and sometimes things can turn around very quickly," said the 41-year-old.

"I'm hoping the good vibes of coming back here and defending my title will give me the boost that I need.

"Just 12 months ago this win was my first on the PGA Tour for a while after a bit of a lean spell and I went on to win again the following week."

Els was on a poor run of form this time last year but that didn't stop him from winning the tournament and he is hoping that history will repeat itself.

He revealed that he had played a friendly game with world number two Lee Westwood at Seminole earlier this week, just as he did last year.

"Lee's still hitting the ball beautifully," Els added. "I like to pick up things and I think I have something again, so I think I should play with him more often."
