There can scarcely have been a more bizarre tournament-winning round than the one Alvaro Quiros carded in Dubai on Sunday (February 13th).
The Spaniard lost a ball in a tree, hit a hole-in-one, an eagle and shot a triple bogey in a round of 68 to win the Dubai Desert Classic by one shot.
His ace came at the par-three 11th, just three holes after he took a seven at the par-four 8th in his golf clothing. He also needed to take out his binoculars after lodging his ball in a palm tree on the same hole.
The 28-year-old finished with a one-shot cushion over South African James Kingston and Denmark's Dane Anders Hansen.
Other strong competitors fell away with a run of poor form, particularly Rory McIlroy, who hit three successive bogeys to end on six under.
"The start was perfect with the eagle on two, but I was shaken after the eighth," said Quiros.
"I was lucky with some putts around the turn and then a three-quarters wedge on the 11th - it was a perfect shot - once a year it happens."
