Baddeley victory ends four-year wait

Aaron Baddeley ended a four-year run without winning a tournament by claiming victory at the Northern Trust open on Sunday (February 20th).

The 29-year-old Australian shot 69 in his final round at the Riviera CC in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles, to finish top of the pile.

Up against a strong field of senior pros in their Peak Performance golf clothing, Baddeley held his nerve to hold off the challenge of Vijay Singh.

The Fijian finished two shots back, with fellow veteran Freddie Couples falling five shots off the pace with a final round of 73.

Baddeley looked to be struggling under the pressure when he took a double-bogey six at the par-four 12th, but he hit back with a birdie at the very next hole to steady the ship.

He admitted that the crowd's support for Couples was an additional obstacle to overcome during a tough final round.

"When he got off to a good start, I was like, 'Freddie looks like he's going to have one of those days where he's going to play great.' So I decided to forget about him and just try to focus on my own game," Baddeley said.
